International Conference on Afghan Migration:

This conference brings together researchers working on Afghan migration, with a particular emphasis on empirical research and policy implications. The conference seeks to place Afghan migration to Europe and Australia within a broader global context by drawing on recent research on Afghan migration to its nearest neighbours, within the sub-region, to and through transit countries and to final destination countries.

Workshop - Studying the Chinese Internet

China has the world's largest number of internet users, a vibrant web-based economy and social media landscape, and a government intent on managing the technology's social and political effects. This two-day workshop brings the nascent study of the Chinese web to the Australian National University with presentations by researchers from China studies, computer science and the social sciences.

As natural disasters impact inequitably on vulnerable populations around the world, disaster preparedness, recovery and reconstruction is increasingly being approached through the lens of integrated public policies on development, demographics, and disaster risk reduction. How the cross-cultural context influences disaster risk governance, and how new communities and families arise from the destruction will form the core dialogue for the papers from renowned international experts being presented at this conference.
